A true masterpiece, this monumental altar is in the upper end the west gallery in Rothenburg’s St Jakobskirche. It’s actually above a street!

One of the more notable things about the Last Supper composition at center: the figure of Judas occupies the central place, rather than Jesus. His figure is actually removable, so between Good Friday and Easter his place can be left empty - so the viewer can consider their own betrayal of Christ.

They very top holds a crystal reliquary said to contain Christ’s blood, lending it’s name to the Altar of the Holy Blood.
